This past season was a great year for the pro league. With the inaugural season in the books and we look back into the first action packed year with close games, intense play, our first champions were crowned in the closest of game endings – the dreaded sudden death overtime. Looking ahead for the 2019 season, it’s time to start planning on how to better the league and what ways we can improve the playoff structure for the championship.
At the 2019 AGM the five member clubs decided that they would like to see playoffs done just a little differently. This year the playoff format will be as follows:
- The top four teams that qualify and participate in a round robin
- After the round robin the 4th place team would be eliminated
- The team that finished 1st will get a bye to the championship round
- The 2nd and 3rd place teams will play each other in a one game semi for a chance to move onto the championship game
This change has been made to create more intense games and having round robin mean more for placement with one team being knocked out right off the bat. President Daryl Blackmore commented “Compared to last years format it allows the 3rd place team one last chance to get back in it. The Executive is looking forward to having one more game added to the playoffs, and making the championship games that much more exciting and competitive. We can’t wait to see the start of the league this year and can’t wait to see who will come out on top in Year 2”.
