AB Pro Players Run Camp For Team Alberta

By Cole Heintz-Thursday 12 Jul 2018

As the next wave of Team Alberta players have been selected there is now a chance for their goaltenders to gain experience in some camps before State Wars. With the Alberta program gaining traction, we look to past players of our program and graduates of university teams and now AB pro league players to help prepare these goaltenders for what they are going to experience at the biggest roller hockey competition in North America, State Wars. The head instructor of the camp is Ewen MacPherson, (Bethel University Graduate, IIHF Team Canada Inline Goalie, 3-time State Wars Team AB Goalie and now Sherwood Park Archers starting Goaltender)

His staff includes:

James Teed (G): Bethel University starting goaltender, Team AB goalie (2013) and now starting goaltender for Edmonton Panthers – AB Pro Roller Hockey

Cole Sonstelie (F): Bethel University Graduate, Team Canada FIRS (2017 and 2018), Forward for Sherwood Park Archers- AB Pro Roller Hockey

Brendan Baumgartner (D): Team Canada IIHF (2014, 2015, 2017), Coach Team AB 2002 (2016, 2017, 2018) and Captain of the Sherwood Park Archers – AB Pro Roller Hockey

The camp will help the goalies refine their game whether its positioning or movement. The differences in goaltending from Ice to concrete is a quite a bit different, moving from concrete to plastic tile comes with its challenges as well. With years of talent and experience running the camp the goalies will be fully prepared to backstop their respective teams to the championship rounds.

Alberta is bursting with Roller Hockey talent, which will allow for the State Wars Goaltender preparation camps and possibly player camps to become a regular occurrence
